• “Picking you came down to two things, really. One is that I felt I would have less inhibitions with you. Your personality seems to be able to handle total honesty and I wouldn’t feel like I had to be careful with what I said or did during labor. Essentially, I wouldn’t be worried about what you’re thinking. :)  It’s my responsibility to feel I can be honest with anyone! My husband and I felt that you conveyed a strength and confidence that we felt would be helpful in the labor environment.”    –Stephanie, first baby
  • “Dawn came highly recommended to me from a colleague who had his first child just months ago. She’s young, but experienced- relatable, yet maintains a professionalism that I want…….”  Click here to read more of the 2 paragraph blog entry testimonial written by Rachel Hinz.
  • “Thank you for being a dependable, well-researched, thoughtful doula for me to send clients to!”  –local birth doula
  • “My wife, Karen, and I thought that we had our birth team completed until we met Dawn.  We figured that because we were having a homebirth and had great midwives on board that there was no need for a doula.  After meeting with Dawn a few times before making our final decision, it became apparent to us that a doula should be an integral part of the team even when having a homebirth.  It was difficult to anticipate the benefits of the prenatatal visits that we had with Dawn, but reflecting after the birth, it was evident that Dawn helped my wife and I prepare mentally and emotionally for the birth experience.  During labor, Dawn did a tremendous job of reading my wife’s epressions and providing the appropriate affirmations and soothing techniques.  Dawn’s massaging during labor was so effective that Karen was able to fall asleep between contractions, allowing her to rest before pushing again.  After the birth, Dawn came to the house to check on us and sent us emails to make sure we were doing well.  Whatever environment one chooses to birth, I would highly recommend Dawn to be part of the team.”  –Frank and Karen Duff, first baby
  • “Dawn is an exceptional person with a deep and abiding wisdom that belies her years.  Her calm, reassuring, yet professional demeanor, commitment to service, and solid experience in the sacred art of ushering babies into the world make her the ideal doula.”  –Eleni Kelakos, The Eleni Group, Business Coach
  • “Dawn offers her clients a lot. I was surprised to receive my birth story written out by her just days after having delivered. Due to the arduous nature of my delivery, there were many things I didn’t remember.  Dawn’s birth story both helped me to process the event and recall important moments from this critical moment in my life.  I will forever treasure the birth story Dawn wrote for us and cannot wait to share it with my daughter one day.”  -Anonymous
  • “Doula Dawn was a critical part of our labor.  She was there when the midwife and the nursing team was not. She made every effort to make my labor as quiet and intimate as possible.”  – Amy B., first baby
  • I want to tell you that I think the work you are doing is having an enormous impact on transforming the work of being a doula into a profession.”  -Michelle Massey Barnes Photography
  • “When I first met Dawn, I had to admit that I did not know what a Doula was. Now that Dawn has taught me what exactly a Doula does, I would not go through the journey to motherhood without one. Not only is Dawn passionate about helping both Mothers and Fathers create a meaningful and memorable childbirth experience, she is dedicated to educating those around her about alternative birthing techniques that have been used throughout the long history of giving birth. Having Dawn as your guide is truly the best way to ensure a healthy, happy newborn and family.”  –Delfina Bonilla-Cassel, Enforma Fit, LLC , Personal Trainer
  • “I really appreciated having you [Doula Dawn] there for support, especially because of the unexpected turn of events.”  –Jamie Begin, first-time Father
  • “Dawn has an easy and engaging style that strikes me as consistent with the “doula” role of being supportive, encouraging, gentle and calm during a time of great tumult—pregnancy and childbirth is rarely easy for anyone involved, especially the mother. When my wife and I were in the throes of childbirth, now 20 years ago, I didn’t know Dawn or even what a doula was, but I wish I had.”    –Christopher Julliet
  • “Dawn is very passionate about birth and it shows when she talks about her business, “My Doula Dawn.”  I recently listened to a presentation she gave. She was well prepared, and very good at explaining the benefits of using a doula for families expecting a baby. She used a detailed power point presentation as a visual aid, and had a wonderful brochure explaining her services and benefits. Dawn came across in her presentation as very honest and professional.  She convinced me, and others around me, that using the additional support of a doula for childbirth can make the birthing process much more enjoyable and much less painful.”  –Elaine W. Graham, Graham Graphics, LLC
  • “Dawn Bussey does a wonderful job of explaining what a doula does and why using one is beneficial. Of all the reasons she talked about, the one that really stood out to me was screening for post-partum depression.”     –Carol Kamm, Resale Expert
  • “I found your services extremely helpful. I don’t think I would have made it as far as I did without your help and knowledge.” –Cassie Zinger, 2nd-time mom
  • “I really enjoyed your recent presentation.  It is clear that you are passionate about your work and really care about your clients!”       –Emily Elliott, PNC Mortgage
  • “I had the opportunity to hear Dawn Bussey give a presentation, it was very enlightening. I had never heard of the term Doula.  I had no idea of the many benefits incorporating a doula into one’s birthing plans could provide.  Dawn’s approachable and practical method of explaining her expertise in this field not only made such good sense, it made me immediately think of friends I had in the recent past that had less than positive birth experiences.  I could not help but wonder if some of their issues could have been either avoided or, at least, lessened had they employed the services of Dawn. In thinking how we all are required to be more proactive with the choices we make concerning our medical care; I would certainly recommend a consultation with Dawn.”   –Nancy Shipway
  • “I have watched your development into a doula with SUCH EXCITEMENT! I can’t tell you how much I think what you’re doing is WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL, W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L for mamas and babies (and daddies, too, I guess)! I got pregnant back in May of 2008 and on a dare, my BFF made me promise to have an intervention-free birth and hooked me up with her Bradley Method teacher. We did the Bradley class and learned about doulas there, but it never occurred to me to hire one. In hindsight, my husband was a good support person, but I think he was overwhelmed near the end (ha! HE was overwhelmed) and a doula would have done us some good. If we have another little one, I’m definitely pushing for a doula AND a home birth. I loved every minute of my natural birth (except for transition, that sucked, but I lucked out with only fifteen minutes of transition) and I want so badly to do it again—with a doula!”   –Laura Stribling, mother, friend, advocate
  • I am happy to announce that my guest lecturing events at the University of Michigan (Dearborn, Reproductive Health Policies and Practices class) and Eastern Michigan University (Applied Sociology class) were great successes.  The students loved it, as did I! During a time of questions, one woman who had already had babies asked, “What are you doing to get the word out about this awesome childbirth option?”  I responded, “I am here now.”  Everyone laughed!
